Ambassador Ma Qiang Met with Major General Wu Junhui, the New Force Commander of UNMISS

On 1 May, Ambassador Ma Qiang met with Major General Wu Junhui, the new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) who assumed his duties on 28 April. The meeting was attended by Counselor Huo Ying, Defense Attaché Chen Gaofeng, and Counselor Li Wancheng.

Ambassador Ma congratulated Maj. Gen. Wu on his new post, briefed him on China-South Sudan relations and the political and security situation in South Sudan. He hoped that UNMISS and Maj. Gen. Wu would play an greater role, as this year is crucial for South Sudan.

Maj. Gen. Wu thanked the Embassy for its support, stating that UNMISS forces will faithfully implement the mandate of the UN Security Council, actively fulfill duties and responsibilities, maintain close cooperation with South Sudanese government and international partners, and provide constructive supports to South Sudan’s peace and stability.
